Bitter leaf just like the name implies is a vegetable well known for its bitter taste. It is mostly used in the preparation of onugbu  and egusi soup by the igbos in the eastern part of Nigeria . It is known by different names in different parts of Nigeria.  The igbos call it onugbu, Ibibio call it etidot, Edo state call it oriwo, Hausa tribe call it chusar-doki, Yoruba call it ewuro.
